1) "Do we want our churches to be a hospital for sinners or a museum of saints?!"
This was the question thrown into a Pastoral Care lecture that got my brain working. So often church is the place where we see the "saintly people" who we aspire to be like one day, rather than the family we run to when things fall apart. My prayer is for congregations to be vulnerable with one-another and allow the gospel to do its transforming work in our lives! Lets actually be a family people want to join.
2)Pauls Christology in the New Testament points to Jesus Christ being the revelation of the One True God, the Covenant-keeping YHWH of the Old Testament. So you need to understand Jesus to understand God. And what is God like?
"Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed."
This is our God.
